I clipped pieces of this interview, sources at bottom of page, just as the interviewer/blogger have also cut pieces of it, this can be discerned by looking at the original page, that the interviewer has left some out, taken stuff out of context. One could say I did the same thing, but it looks very typically Greek, direct..
“I’m certain that when Diaspora Jews talk among themselves, they feel satisfied. They feel that now, when we are so close to the greatest power in the world, no one can do anything to us. We can do whatever we like. This is why the claim of new anti-Semitism is not only a sick reaction, it’s a sly reaction as well.”
Jews want to feel that they are victims. They want to console themselves by saying: We are in the right, we are victims again, let’s build another ghetto. This is a masochistic reaction. There is a masochistic mentality in jewish tradition. I am sure that when Jews of the diaspora speak amongst themselves, they feel satisfaction. They think – now, when we are so close to the world’s biggest nation, no one can harm us. We can do whatever we like. This is why their claim about renewing antisemitism is not only sick. It is devious. It allows the jews to do whatever they will. It serves as an excuse politically as well as psychologically. There is no antisemitism in Europe today.”
“Because it really allows the jews to do whatever they want. Not only psychologically, but also politically, it gives the jews an excuse. The sense of victimhood. It gives them a license to hide the truth.
“Wherever there are jews. Wherever there are orchestras controlled by jewish people, they boycott my work.”
You really feel Jews control much of the music world?
“Yes.”
And the same applies to world finance?
“In America the jewish community is very strong. It controls much of the economy. Certainly the mass media.
Later in the interview Theodorakis says that the force behind the existence of the jews is “Your feeling that you are the children of god. That you are a chosen people.” Shavit then asks, do the jews appear patronizing and aggressive to you? Do they control the music establishment, global economy, mass media, America’s foreign policy?
To each of these questions Theodorakis replies individually with a “Yes”.
When asked if, by his account, the great nation of America is actually ruled by jews, Theodorakis says “Yes”.
So the jews pull the strings behind Bush?
“No. They are in the front.”
( ha, saved the best for last)

Weintraub comments re what Theodorakis says-
“Theodorakis basically reaffirms his antisemitism while protesting his innocence of it and proclaiming, “I am a true friend of the jewish people.” There’s something about this sneaky mixture of love/hate, admiration and resentment of “the jews” that is even more infuriating than flat-out antisemitism. And, I suspect, far more common.”
Hi, I disagree with what Theodorakis believes (in this interview) but I think that the scenario (or the story) that he believes (and acts on the false basis that it’s a true trory) is extremely luring, seductive and persuasive, especially in Greece. In other words, I don’t see people who buy the story as antisemites, I see them as CLIENTS of antisemitic propaganda. Anyone can buy this crap, it is far more difficult to deliberately avoid buying it (by taking extra care and doing research)!
In other words, I think Theodorakis is genuinely NOT antisemitic, but he has genuinely come to believe certain things, at certain times, which of course could or should be regarded as antisemitic! (in this respect I agree with you)
I know the guy personally of course, he is very old and a very kind person, too. So you could claim I am biased, no doubt. But should I then call you an… antitheodorakisist if you BELIEVE about me that I am the opposite?
What I am getting at, is also that it takes more than just believing certain myths, especially those myths sold by many media, to BE the creator of these myths.
Congrats and Shalom
Yes, I was curious. My wife is Greek … which is one reason among many that I’m generally fond of Greeks, and prepared to forgive them a lot. (Though there is a limit…) And, of course, Theodorakis’s deranged and disgusting anti-semitic ravings back in 2003-2004 (along with the bizarre self-deception that accompanied them) don’t negate the fact that he is and has been a great artist. We’re all complicated.
I just wanted to mention that the comments you quote at the end of your post weren’t mine. I quoted those particular remarks from Gene of Harry’s Place.
